Relay

Relay is an ongoing set of exchanges across medium.

Each Relay is a scored process for generating new material and exchanging it across artistic disciplines. Each exchange is a call and response governed by shared language—identified or invented.

In pursuit of my ongoing interest in finding shared language, and co-creating in collaborations across media, Relay’s inciting questions are: What information generated through the creation of new material? How is this information transmitted across disciplines? How does the act of exchange change the information itself? What is lost in translation, and what is found in translation?

Each Relay proposes unique answers to these questions. Information about Relay’s collaborating artists can be found below.

Taylor W. Thompson is a poet and a doctoral candidate in American Studies and Black Studies at Yale University. She works to develop research at the intersection of Economic History and Black Feminist Theory. Taylor earned her master’s degree in Oral History at Columbia University where her thesis unfolded into a public, online oral history, and speculative archive. The project developed Black Feminist listening practices for engaging with the oral histories of mutual aid organizers as they spoke about the types of futures they are working to produce through their organizing. Taylor graduated from Barnard College, where she majored in Economics & Social History and minored in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
